You have found what you’ve been looking for. Chalki is a tiny island where everything you need is within walking distance. A place where time is yours, to spend it as you like.
Swim in crystal clear waters right in front of your villa or at the beach. Sit by the port and watch the fishing boats return. Write a letter. Look at the stars at night and make a wish.
It is ideal destination for people who like to share. The traditional houses of the village form neighborhoods where guests get to know each other, share their experiences, their dreams, their wishes.
Nimborio is a quiet traditional fishing port. Here, our villas Praxithea and Aristea are your authentic Greek home for the summer..
Villa Praxithea is a two storey "neoclassical style" noble house, built on the seafront in the year 1909. It was restored in the year 2000. So close to the water it is, that you can fish from the veranda. A morning swim in front of the villa, instead of a morning shower, makes your day! The villa is surrounded by traditional "island-style”" houses, scattered around the picturesque harbor of the island. The clarity of the water in front of the villa is astounding, a place that the snorkelers will adore. The villa is beautifully restored with wooden floors and high ceilings, elegantly and traditionally furnished. Even when you stay indoors you can gaze at the deep blue of the Aegean Sea and the sky through the doors and the numerous windows of the building.
Villa Aristea is a smaller, one storey traditional house. It was renovated in the year 2005 with a lot of passion and love for tradition and all the materials used were carefully selected, the wooden floors, the ceilings, the traditional wooden doors, and the windows. Inside, you will love the color combinations. You can enjoy your evening drinks at the outer yard of next-door Villa Praxithea under the tamarisk tree, following the big ferry boat mooring, or writing a letter to your friends and family.
Villa Praxithea was named after Praxithea Pipinou-Zervou (my great grand-mother, who died in 1956), the first daughter of Yannis Pipinos (1857-1925), who was a wealthy sponge merchant, the richest person in Halki. He earned his riches by exporting natural sponges overseas at the end of the 19th century.
Halki has many beautiful beaches, many of which are within walking distance. The beaches you can visit by foot are Pontamos and Ftenagia. You can visit Kania by car. Gialoi and Areta by boat.
Just a few miles off the west coast of Rhodes, lies the beautiful tiny island of Chalki or Halki. The traditional way of living of an island fishing village continues, because it is relatively unknown to the tourist industry. As there is no real traffic, the island guarantees you a quiet and relaxing vacation.
The island of Chalki (Halki) is linked by boat with islands like Kassos, Karpathos, Kreta, Cos, Tilos, Symi and Kalymnos, but mainly and most frequently with Rhodes. The best way to reach Chalki is to fly to the International Airport of Rhodes, with one of the numerous charters or regular flights, and then catch a correspondence. Outside airport, taxis queue to take you to one of the two ports from where you can catch a ferry that goes to Chalki.
Chalki’s waters are ideal for snorkeling and spearfishing.
Trekking: Chalki is ideal for walking – bear in mind that you will encounter wooden gates or fences on the course of the paths. They are used by shepherds in order to prevent herds from straying! Feel free to continue your way but remember to close the gate behind you! There are trekking maps available for sale on the island.
Visit the Traditional House of Halki, which runs as a folklore museum and gives visitors the opportunity to get a glimpse of the daily life of old Chalki (from the chest with the bride's dowry, to the handmills for making bread and rare embroideries).
